Evacuees in Solano County grateful to be alive after Atlas Creek fire destroys land, homes

On Wednesday, Solano County sheriff's officials ordered new evacuations north of Fairfield. They said the fire there jumped a major roadway and moved southeast. Deputies are making sure homes and businesses have been cleared out. (KGO-TV )

On Wednesday, Solano County sheriff's officials ordered new evacuations north of Fairfield. They said the fire there jumped a major roadway and moved southeast. Deputies are making sure homes and businesses have been cleared out.

All Wednesday long there has been a feeling of watch and wait. For the time being things in that area seem somewhat under control, despite that the fire is not under control.

Crews from Cal Fire and Reno have been battling the flames using bulldozers and other heavy equipment. They even set a back fire in the hills.

People living in this same area have been told to get out of their homes as the threat continues to grow.

"We live on Green Valley and I understand that they lost a home last night. The wind is the deal, you know we're in this trailer and it's just busted by the wind occasionally in the middle of the night and you think, 'what's happening to the firefighters up there?' they're working hard. They've been so professional taking care of people. Everyone comes together," said Ken Emerson, a Green Valley evacuee.

Emerson narrowly got out with his two dogs and two cats. They're living in his small trailer at the Solano College evacuation center.

A highway 121 you can see the damage from the Atlas Creek fire nearby. Firefighters saved houses but the land around the houses is scorched. Hot spots are still evident everywhere.

Resident not only evacuated Green Valley but also the Rancho Solano Golf Course community in Fairfield.
