San Francisco Symphony music director to step down in 2020

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- It's a big change for the San Francisco Symphony as Michael Tilson Thomas announced he would step down as music director in 2020.

That will mark the end of his 25th season in charge of the symphony, but Thomas will not be gone for good.

He will assume the title of music director laureate and will conduct the orchestra for a minimum of four weeks each season and work on special projects.
