San Jose charity spreads holiday joy with new delivery truck
It may look like a typical delivery truck, but for Sacred Heart Community Service it's a miracle on wheels.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- It may look like a typical delivery truck, but for Sacred Heart Community Service it's a miracle on wheels.

It took the charitable organization in San Jose a year and half to raise the $125,000 needed to purchase the truck and now it's going into service just in time for the busy holiday season.

Employees and volunteers christened the new truck with a bottle of bubbly Thursday evening.

The president of the board of directors said it will make receiving donations and delivering food much more efficient. For example, when they need to move 5,000 loaves of bread.

The new truck is not only bigger than the old one... it has a better hydraulic lift and a side door... enabling easier loading and unloading.

Those features will allow Sacred Heart to start delivering pantry boxes to schools for families in need.

The old truck is retiring after 15 years and more than 200,000 miles.

Sacred Heart Community Service will distribute 4,200 Thanksgiving food boxes between November 20th and 22nd.
