Bay Area Weekend Events: Christmas tree lighting, holiday festival and more

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Are you ready for the weekend? Here are some fun ideas from our partners at Hoodline - the hyper local neighborhood website to find weekend activities in and around the Bay Area.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in San Francisco. This weekend, the city's most recognized Christmas tree will be lit up. Head out to the Macy's 28th annual tree lighting in Union Square Park this Friday at 5:30 p.m. The tree will be decorated with more than 43,000 twinkling LED lights and 700 ornaments. There will also be performances before they flip the switch. It's free and fun for the whole family.

Speaking of family, take the little ones out Saturday. You can ride the Leroy King Carousel for free at the Children's Creativity Museum and Yerba Buena Skating Center. There will also be carnival games. You can play in the snow! And enjoy ice skating performances. The fun starts at 4 in the afternoon until 7:30 at night.

Help decorate the Christmas tree at San Francisco City Hall this Sunday starting at 8 a.m. It's called "the Rainbow World Fun World Tree of Hope." And it's one of the most unique holiday trees in the world. It's meant to promote global unity, peace and love and is decorated with thousands of origami cranes and stars inscribed with people's wishes and hopes for the future of the world.
