San Jose's Christmas in the Park has a new feather in its cap this year after breaking a Guinness World Record!

The event's executive director said the 600 illuminated Christmas trees, in one location, set the world record. The paperwork has been accepted by Guinness. It will be official after Christmas in the Park documents all of the trees on video.

One of those trees is the giant centerpiece of Christmas in the Park. City leaders, PG&E officials and local ice skating legends Polina Edmunds and Rudy Galindo helped count down to the official tree lighting on Friday night-kicking off the 38th annual event.

New this year- Christmas in the Park will be open an extra week! It's staying open until January 7th to coincide with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships at SAP Center.

Over those 45 days of holiday fun, some 650,000 people will visit the park.

20,000 people attended the tree lighting on the first night.

In addition to the tree lighting, they were treated to live singing and dancing on the main stage. There will also be a guest appearance by actress Luna Blaise who stars on the ABC sitcom Fresh off the Boat and is a rising singer and songwriter.
