An Amber Alert has been issued after a 2-year-old boy was taken from his home in Boyle Heights by his biological father.

Authorities say Edwin Vargas was taken in the 1000 block of Lorena at about 6:30 a.m. The mother was putting Edwin in his car seat when the suspect pushed her away and took off in her car with the boy.

The suspect was identified as Abraham Vargas, who is between the ages of 26 and 28. Police said there is a restraining order against the father, and he is not allowed to have the boy. He reportedly told family members that he wants to take the boy to Mexico.

Edwin was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue sweats. He has brown hair, brown eyes, about 2 feet tall and 30 pounds.

The vehicle is an orange Nissan Quest, license plate 7CIN189.

Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD at (877) LAPD-24-7.
