OAKLAND, Calif. -- A man riding his bicycle in the Oakland Hills Saturday morning was critically injured when a driver struck him and fled the scene, police said Sunday.

Officers responded around 9:30 a.m. Saturday to reports of a collision involving a car and bicyclist in the 6600 block of Broadway near Lake Temescal, according to police.

Police said officers found the bicyclist, a 53-year-old Oakland man, suffering from serious injuries.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he remained Sunday.

Police are attempting to locate the driver involved in the crash and believe the vehicle involved may have been a black 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, according to Oakland police Capt. Anthony Toribio.

Investigators have not determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, he said.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Oakland police Officer Greg Bellusa at (510) 750-6594.
