SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco police are investigating a stabbing that happened near the University of San Francisco campus on Monday night, a police spokesman said.

The suspect and the victim were involved in a car accident in the area of Golden Gate Avenue and Chabot Terrace around 9:30 p.m., Officer Albie Esparza said.

When the victim stepped out of his vehicle to exchange information, the suspect punched and stabbed him, Esparza said.

The suspect then fled the scene and remains at large this morning, he said.

The male victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital for injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, according to Esparza.
