An Alabama couple was arrested and charged with child neglect after refusing to take their sunburned foster child out of the sun.

Staff at the Hawaiian Inn in Daytona Beach Shores, Fla. notified police on Thursday out of concern for two children, who are 5 and 2 years old, according to WKMG. The workers told police the parents, Mounir and Rebecca El-Rhazouani appeared drunk and had refused to take the children out of the sun after multiple requests.

Police then confronted Rebecca El-Rhazouani and Mounir El-Rhazouani, the child's foster parents, who were seen to be drinking beers by the hotel pool, according to WKMG.

"The child wanted to get out of the sun so bad that it was literally running to that door over there, screaming, trying to get into the door, and the father would not take the child inside," hotel security said, according to WKMG.

The child's foster mother told police that the child had Eczema, explaining why he appeared to be sunburnt. The couple told police that they had left their children alone in the hotel room, where beer and a pocket-knife was all in the nearby vicinity, according to WKMG.

"My poor babies, oh, my gosh, my poor babies. I was going to put them to bed, I promise, I was going to get my stuff and put them to bed. Oh, my gosh," Rebecca said, according to police.

The couple has posted bond since the arrest.
