EL SOBRANTE, Calif. -- A 12-acre brush fire that threatened homes in El Sobrante this afternoon has been contained, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District officials said.

The 2-alarm fire was reported at about 2 p.m. today in the vicinity of the 5600 block of Olinda Road near San Pablo Creek, fire official said.

Firefighters worked to protect homes on Amend and Valley View roads that were threatened by the blaze.

Fire officials declared the brush fire contained shortly before 4 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation
