DANVILLE, Calif. -- Prosecutors have charged a Danville middle school teacher for allegedly possessing more than 600 child pornography videos and images, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday.

Mitchell Wolf, a 58-year-old Danville resident and teacher at Diablo Vista Middle School, was charged on Tuesday with one count of aggravated child pornography possession.

Wolf was arrested last Friday after members of the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force served a search warrant at his home in the 500 block of Bourne Lane. The search turned up hundreds of videos and images of child pornography stored both on computers and DVD disks, according to prosecutors.

He was taken to county jail in Martinez, where he remains in lieu of $1 million bail.

Wolf is set to appear in court in Martinez next Tuesday to enter a plea.

The Danville resident has worked as a math teacher at Diablo Vista Middle School for 12 years, according to San Ramon Valley Unified School District spokesman Terry Koehne.

Koehne said last week that the district is "shocked and saddened" by the allegations against Wolf and planned to cooperate in any way possible with the police investigation.

Danville police continue to investigate the case and are looking into whether any local children may have been victimized.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Danville police Sgt. Jason Haynes at (925) 314-3700 or jhaynesdanville.ca.gov.
