Deputies in Castro Valley shoot suspect during search for missing boys

Missing Castro Valley brothers found safe
Two brothers who went missing in Castro Valley have been found safe after a search Sunday night.

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- Deputies in Castro Valley shot a man they say charged at them with a knife while they were conducting a search for two missing boys Sunday evening.

Deputies say they received a call about two missing brothers, 11-years-old and 12-years-old, around 7 p.m. Sunday night.

They say that while they were searching an area in Castro Valley, a transient male attacked them with a knife.

Deputies shot the man who was transported to a hospital. His condition is unknown.

The boys, Daniel and Charles McCarthy of Castro Valley, were found safe in Newark, walking to their father's house.
