Diego Ruiz, 8, and David Mancia, 2, both of Chelsea, Mass., were playing at Washington Park just before 7 p.m. when the tree next to them crashed to the ground, authorities said.

Witnesses reported hearing a cracking sound just prior to the large tree falling on the children.

The surveillance footage showed people running in to help rescue the two boys and other children who had been playing in the area. Chelsea authorities said the part of the park where the children were was a "children's playing area."

Authorities said that was David remains hospitalized, and was being treated for a possible fractured skull.

"His skull is cracked, a little bit cracked, and part of his ear, like, is not that good," David's sister Evelyn Mancia told ABC affiliate WCVB-TV. "But thanks to God he started speaking."

In a press release, Chelsea Police released the video to the public.

"I am wishing both of the injured children a speedy recovery and am grateful that others in the park escaped injury," wrote Chelsea Police Chief Brian A. Kyes in the press release. "I also thank the other adults in the park who acted quickly to remove the children from the debris and by assisting first responders"
