Extra police expected at Oakland elementary school after hammer attack

Lafayette Elementary School in Oakland
Additional police are expected on the campus of an Oakland elementary school Monday after police say a woman attacked a student there with a hammer.

It happened Friday at Lafayette Elementary School located on Market Street.

Police say Haseemah Diame repeatedly struck a 9-year-old girl with a hammer. Diame is the mother of a second-grade student at the school.

Police are looking into the possibility that it is part of a long-standing feud between the woman and the victim's family.

The young girl was taken to a hospital, but is expected to be OK.
