Fairfield police seek suspect who assaulted teen

FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- Fairfield police are looking for a person who assaulted a 16-year-old girl as she was jogging Saturday.

The girl had been on a walking trail near Oakbrook Drive in the community of Cordelia around 12:20 p.m., police said.

A male asked the girl for directions then assaulted her and fled after she fought back, according to police.

The girl ran home to notify police with the assistance of a relative.

The girl was not injured in the assault, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the area and called in a police K-9 unit and California Highway Patrol helicopter but were unable to find the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white man who is around 18 years old with facial hair and a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and gray sweatpants.
