Family displaced, dog killed in San Jose house fire

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A two-alarm house fire Sunday morning in San Jose has displaced a family of five, a fire captain said.

The fire at a residence in the 1100 block of Lynn Avenue was initially reported at 5:12 a.m. and was under control just before 6 a.m., according to the San Jose Fire Department.

The blaze in the one-story home started in the back patio area then spread to an attic space and the main structure, fire Capt. Mike Van Elgort said.

The home sustained moderate to severe damage, Van Elgort said.

Firefighters said the family living at the residence escaped the blaze without injury, but a pet dog was killed in the fire.

The family was displaced by the fire but Van Elgort could not confirm if they received assistance from the American Red Cross or from family members.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
