Female jogger sexually assaulted on popular East Bay trail

LIVERMORE, Calif. (KGO) -- A woman jogging on a popular East Bay trail was ambushed and sexually assaulted. It's the fourth attack there in just three years so police are looking for that violent sexual predator.

The trail sees a lot of traffic from employees at the Lawrence Livermore National Lab, about five minutes away. However, what's startling about this attack is that it happened during a busy time of day.

It was just before 6 p.m. Tuesday when a scruffy-looking man ambushed and sexually assaulted a 29-year-old female jogger. It happened along Livermore's Arroyo Trail.

Lt. John Hurd from the Livermore Police Department said, "The suspect came at her from behind and was able to grab her."

A Livermore resident, who did not want us to use her name, said, "I am really disturbed that this happened, in broad daylight, at a time frame when a lot of people are on the trail."

However, there were no witnesses to the attack. On Wednesday, investigators searched for more evidence along the trail which is lined with homes. It's the fourth sexual assault on this same trail in three years.

"We can't rule out that they are not all connected, and we don't have a common denominator to connect them all, other than the location," Hurd said.

"I think we should feel free and safe to go for a jog, listening to our music, without worrying about being raped," said the resident.

"We always tell our daughter, 'Make sure you look behind all the time and know if somebody is coming. If you have music in your ears, you're not going to hear it,'" Livermore resident Lia Venet said.

The suspect is described as white male in his mid 30's, about 5'10" to 6' tall, weighing 180-190 lbs. He's unshaven with dark eyebrows and was wearing a dark, hooded, long-sleeve sweat shirt and dark colored baggy sweat pants.
