Firefighters are battling a two-alarm fire at a strip mall in Sunnyvale at Fair Oaks and Evelyn.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- A fire enveloped a barbershop at a Sunnyvale strip mall early this morning, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

Sunnyvale DPS received calls of a structure fire at 4:57 a.m. at Exclusive Cutz located at 612 E. Evelyn Ave. and arrived three minutes later. Responders found the business fully involved with fire, public safety officials said.

Units called for a second alarm for assistance, and crews fought the fire from the outside due to safety concerns that there was too much fire to fight on the inside.

Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the other businesses in the strip mall, but some of the attached businesses sustained significant smoke damage, according to public safety officials.

There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Investigators are, however, aware of an incident of arson that occurred exactly one week ago at the same strip mall. There is currently no information linking the two events, DPS officials said.

Those who may have information related to either of the events are asked to contact the investigations unit at (408) 730-7120.
