FREMONT, Calif (KGO) -- Fremont firefighters are on the scene of a house fire on Carol Avenue near Roberts that broke out around 1 a.m. Monday.

It took firefighters about an hour to put out the fire. Firefighters say the home had been abandoned and squatters had broken in through a back door.

"We were able to make it to the back bedroom. There was so much fire involvement that it was unsafe for crews to get completely throughout the structure," said Fremont Fire Department Batt. Chief Jeff Kleven.

No injuries are reported.

Last week, a police shooting suspect was found dead in a house fire a couple of doors down after a tense standoff.
