Freight train derails in San Jose, no injuries
A freight train derailed in San Jose leaving a car teetering off the tracks.

SAN JOSE -- Firefighters are responding to a train derailment in San Jose this morning.

The incident was reported at 9:52 a.m. when a Union Pacific Railroad train consisting of two empty rock-cars went off of the tracks in the vicinity of East Taylor and North Seventh streets, according to Fire Capt. Christopher Salcido.

The first units arrived on scene at 10 a.m. The fire department's response also involved deploying their hazardous materials team in case of fuel leakage and activating an urban search and rescue crew.

No injuries were reported and the derailment was described as being relatively minor.

As of 10:30 a.m., Salcido said Union Pacific Railroad officials were sending heavy equipment to right the train cars and get them back on the tracks.
