FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- Fremont police say someone is trying to rip off necklaces and even earrings as women are walking down the street. They're after gold and this is a story police in the area have seen before.

Fremont has seen two of these types of robberies in a row and now police are trying to figure out if they're connected.

The first incident happened last Thursday in the middle of the afternoon.

Police say a woman was walking on Mission View Drive, near Michelle Street, when the robbers ripped a gold chain from her neck.

The suspect's vehicle was a four-door Mazda 323 with damage on the rear passenger side quarter panel. One suspect was described as a black male adult, approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build, last seen wearing a baseball cap, green jacket with a hood and blue jeans.

The second incident took place last Saturday.

Family members were on a walk near Frederick Road and Deep Creek Road when two men ripped a gold chain from a woman's neck and then tried to get her earrings, but she screamed and they took off running.

One of the suspects in this incident was described as a 25-year-old black male adult, 6 foot 2 inches, last seen wearing a dark blue hoodie and black pants. Another suspect is described as a 25-year-old, 6-foot-tall black male.

It is unknown if the incidents over the weekend are related.

The last chain snatch robbery was in February.

A string of chain snatch robberies also took place last summer, with at least one juvenile arrested.
