SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A fundraiser is being held Sunday for the family of a man killed last week in San Jose. Those responsible for organizing the fundraiser are the ones looking for the accused killer. In less than 24 hours, nearly $10,000 has already been raised.

Phuoc Hong Long Lam's family is heartbroken. Losing the 37-year-old father of two has been devastating.

ABC7 News interviewed Lam's wife with the help of an interpreter.

"She's not angry, she's sad that this happened to her and taken away her husband and the father of her child," San Jose Ofc. Huan Nguyen said.

Lam was shot Tuesday after an apparent case of road rage. The passenger in the suspect's car shot Lam who died at the hospital.

Lam worked 17 hours a day, seven days a week as a bus driver so his wife could stay home and take care of their two young sons. Their oldest has severe autism.

"I got struck to the soft core in my body when you see this," Nguyen said.

Nguyen has two kids of his own. After hearing about this tragedy he knew he had to help. So, he launched an online fundraising campaign for the family and in less than 24 hours was able to raise more than $10,000.

"They're not living in luxury housing or anything like that, especially the special needs for the 7 year old, especially him is in constant care," Nguyen said.

These days all that fills this house is sorrow. May is typically a month of celebrations, but there is now a new plan for Mother's Day.

"We will gather around here at night and eat dinner for Mother's Day with him," the victim's sister Hong Lam said.

Lam's funeral will take place May 16. It would have been his 38th birthday.
