SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A man is being hailed a hero after he saved another man's life at the Mineta San Jose International Airport.

Mike Vanneman heard a woman screaming at one of the gates. Her 76-year-old husband was having a heart attack.

A Los Altos businessman told ABC7 News what happened and it turns out he is also a volunteer firefighter with CPR training, so he knew just what to do. "If you're there and you witness it, you never forget it. And if you're there and you witness it and you jump in as a courageous bystander, you do your part," Vanneman said.

Two nurses helped with chest compressions and another woman comforted the man's wife.

Vanneman used one of the airport's 47 automated external defibrillators to shock him back to life.

The patient is now recovering and Vanneman hopes this story will inspire everyone to learn CPR.
