YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK -- Highway 140 will reopen Saturday afternoon at 6 p.m., officials said, after a rockslide forced the closure of one of the main access points to Yosemite National Park Thursday morning.

Park staff and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) staff assessed the site Friday and deemed it safe for park personnel to begin removing the rubble left behind by the rockslide.

Crews worked throughout Friday and finished clearing up the debris early Saturday.

The closure had forced many people to take alternate routes into the park.
