Police are investigating a series of home burglaries on the Peninsula, including a burglary in Hillsborough that was caught on camera.

HILLSBOROUGH, Calif. (KGO) -- Police are investigating a series of home burglaries on the Peninsula. On Tuesday, a home in Hillsborough was hit. Security cameras got the whole thing and now officials are asking the public to help identify the suspects.

Residents who spoke with ABC7 News say they're nervous and that either they've been a victim of a property crime or they know a neighbor who has. In the meantime, police are warning them to be careful.

San Mateo police released video on YouTube last week to warn residents of the increasing property crimes.

Then shortly after noon on Tuesday, two burglars broke a large window of a home on Denise Drive in Hillsborough. The home security camera recorded the intruders running through the house, ransacking several rooms. Hillsborough police told us they stole expensive jewelry among other items.

San Mateo County as a whole has experienced a rise in home burglaries.

A woman who lives in Baywood, another well to do community next to Hillsborough, says two of her neighbors were burglarized a couple of weeks ago.

"It turns out as the police were coming to this house, they got another call four blocks down and that woman was home," she said. "So we're all on the lookout."

So now she takes no chances of becoming a victim herself.

"Lights on, cars, more lights in the yard, obviously we use our alarm 24/7and I think a lot of people in the neighborhood are getting cameras," she said.

San Mateo Police Sgt. Rick Decker believes that that there are more criminals on the streets because of prison re-alignment and recently approved ballot measures.

"Prop 36 the reform and of course Prop 47 of course put more and more people who would have done time and had some consequences in prison and county jails and put them out on the street and unfortunately we're seeing a spike," he said..

Anyone who has any information about the Hillsborough home burglary is urged to contact police.
