SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose police are at the scene this morning of a suspected homicide after finding the body of a man about a quarter-mile east of state Highway 87, a police spokesman said.

Police received a call at 8:04 a.m. about a person lying on the ground in the 1900 block of Monterey Road who might be dead, police spokesman Officer Albert Morales said.

The man was not breathing when officers arrived and police suspect he was killed. However, what happened to him is still being investigated, Morales said.

"We just know he had visible injuries," Morales said.

The case has been assigned to the Police Department's homicide unit, Morales said.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office will take custody of the body to determine the man's cause of death.

The man's name is not yet being released. He was not carrying identification and police do not have any suspects in his death.
