Human West Nile case reported in Solano County

SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- Public health officials have confirmed the first human case of West Nile in Solano County for 2014.

The Suisun City resident is now home from the hospital after being treated for West Nile meningitis. Officials have not said if the patient is a man or woman, but did confirm the person is between 40 and 50-years-old.

West Nile is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. Human cases have also been confirmed in Contra Costa, Tulare and Stanislaus counties.
