FRESNO, Calif. (KGO) -- The Merced County Sheriff's Office says a convicted murderer who escaped while being transported from Wasco State Prison to Stockton has been caught.

While inmate Jeffrey Scott Landers was on the loose, officials told residents that they should not try to contact or apprehend him. He is considered highly dangerous.

Officials say Landers fled during transport on Saturday night near the city of Livingston. He was caught on Sunday.

No details on the circumstances surrounding the getaway were immediately available.

Landers is serving time for the August 2011 stabbing death of 61-year-old Moses Duron in Riverside.
