Tax Day tomorrow could be a good day for some folks, but you have to act fast. That's because Americans have left a total of $760 million in unclaimed tax refunds from 2011. Those refunds expire tomorrow.
Taxpayers can go to IRS.gov and get a tax return transcript to find out about missing refunds.
Your chance of being audited is lower than ever. Budget cuts and new responsibilities are straining the Internal Revenue Service's ability to police tax returns. Last year, the IRS audited less than 1 percent of all returns from individuals, the lowest rate since 2005. This year, the IRS will have fewer agents auditing returns than at any time since at least the 1980s.
