SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KGO) -- A local rescue group just returned to the Bay Area after setting out to help residents of Nepal recover from the devastating 7.9 earthquake that struck on April 25. That quake killed over 8,000 people and completely destroyed thousands of buildings and some entire villages.

On Wednesday, ABC7 News was at San Francisco International Airport as members of the Community Disaster Response Team saw their families for the first time in almost a month.

Help Nepal: Support quake relief and recovery efforts

The relief and recovery efforts in Nepal will likely need even more help now. If you would like to donate, you can text NEPAL to 90999 to contribute $10 or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

The group was helping survivors when a 7.3 aftershock hit Nepal on May 12.

ABC7 News reporter Sergio Quintana was also there to greet them. He joined them in Nepal for part of their mission. You can see all of his reports here.

"That day we were treating 200 patients before the quake. As the slides went down we went into search and rescue. Pulled one from the slide and dug for others," Troy Clemons from the Community & Disaster Response Team said.

The CDRT team treated more than 1,200 injured Nepalese during their mission.
