FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- Police hope to solve a mystery in Fremont after a man was found shot to death inside a park.

Two people reported seeing the body in bushes at the Coyote Hills Regional Park around 6:30 a.m. on Patterson Ranch Road near Paseo Padre Parkway, which is near the shoreline of the San Francisco Bay.

East Bay Regional Park police say the man was wounded in the chest and didn't appear to have been there that long.

It was quite a shock to a regular park visitor.

"That's very surprising," said park visitor Yvette Cardenas. "Like I said, we come here regularly and we live in the area, so we don't hear of that very often."

East Bay Regional Parks District spokesperson Carolyn Jones added, "Things like this are extremely rare in the park district. We don't see any threat to public safety."

The Alameda County Sheriff's Coroner's Bureau is still working to identify the victim.
