BEIJING (KGO) -- Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is winning over fans in China after speaking Mandarin during an appearance at a Beijing university.

The crowd at Tsinghua University cheered when Zuckerberg began with "How is everyone" and "I'm so happy to be in Beijing."

He went on to finish the 30-minute Q&A session almost entirely in Mandarin.

Zuckerberg said he's been learning the language since 2010, partly to impress his in-laws. His wife, Priscilla Chan, grew up speaking Chinese.

He did not talk about China's ban on Facebook, but he said the social media giant has helped Chinese businesses gain customers abroad.
