NASA has revealed the origins of a meteorite that fell to Earth in Novato two years ago.

It was found by a woman after it bounced off the roof of her home.

The meteorite and five other rocks have been under study ever since by an international consortium of 50 researchers.

They have now concluded they are probably 470-million-year-old fragments from a meteor that dates back to before the Moon was formed.

They also think the fragments came from a rock that was 14 inches long and weighed 176 pounds, when it first entered the Earth's atmosphere.
