Oakland police warn of spate of shootings on Grizzly Peak
Two shootings incidents were reported on Grizzly Peak Blvd. in Oakland and police have issued a warning to sightseers.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Grizzly Peak Boulevard in Oakland is known for its breathtaking views, but Oakland police have issued a warning after there were two shooting incidents on the road, just east of Marlborough Terrace.

Chris Au and his photography friends spent the evening shooting pictures along Grizzly Peak Boulevard. They made a point to come in a group because there's safety in numbers.

"We're extremely more careful these days," he said.

"Every time I go up here now I always go with three or four people, make it a lot safer," Jonathan Dinh, another photographer said. "More eyes and a little bit more intimidating for the bad guys."

The so-called bad guys struck as recently as Sunday night.

Oakland police say two men robbed a man in a parked car then shot him in the leg despite having cooperated. One of the suspects is believed to be a teenager, the other about 25 years old.

This is the second incident on this stretch of Grizzly Peak Boulevard over the past couple of weeks. On Dec. 19, a couple was parked when their car was struck by gunfire. Oakland police have no motive and no suspects.

For the people who make regularly trips to Grizzly Peak, the shootings are yet another reminder to be on the lookout on this scenic road.

People say, at times taking in the breathtaking view has left them feeling like a sitting duck.

"Seclusion, darkness. I mean there are no street lights around here whatsoever," sightseer Chris Mayo said. "I mean the only light right now is from the camera, headlights and it's absolutely dark otherwise."

Oakland police have since stepped up its patrols in the area. They're also urging people to report any suspicious activity.
