WASHINGTON, DC (KGO) -- President Barack Obama requested $35 million to test the DNA evidence from rape investigations that have gone untested.

As the ABC7 News I-Team has reported, hundreds of kits -- containing DNA evidence from rape investigations -- have gone untested in the Bay Area alone.

As a result of our reporting, San Francisco and Alameda County have sent their kits off to be analyzed.

On Wednesday, the White House said it has included $35 million in its proposal for next year's budget, for police agencies around the country to do the same.
