GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- An official says one person is dead and a community college campus is on lockdown as authorities search for a man with a gun.

The man fatally shot was a long-time campus worker.

Kim Best, spokeswoman for the city of Goldsboro, says there is one victim in Monday's campus shooting at Wayne County Community College in Goldsboro. She says that person is dead but did not give any other details.

Best says the shooter is not in custody. She would not say whether the shooter was still on campus.

Wayne County assistant operations manager Daniel Wiggins says 911 received a call about 8 a.m. of an active shooter on campus.

Authorities are searching the area for a white male, about 5 foot, 11 inches tall with a goatee and a tattoo over his eye. Wiggins says he doesn't know what type of firearm is involved.
