OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A small kitchen fire killed one person and injured two others in Oakland.

The fire burned a home on 89th Avenue in the Webster neighborhood around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

A woman in her 50s died. Two men are in grave condition, all overcome by smoke.

Firefighters say it's surprising because the home had three smoke detectors that appear to be working. Investigators aren't sure why the victims couldn't get out sooner.
