DEDHAM, Mass. -- A Massachusetts family is in mourning after their 16-year-old daughter died tragically and unexpectedly from a brain hemorrhage after collapsing during field hockey practice last Friday. Casey Dunne's family says she had a personality that everyone was drawn to.

"She was fun loving and determined, and loved to play," says her father, Matthew Dunne.

"She's always the first one to jump in the lake, jump in the pool, do the monkey swing," says her mother, Mary Dunne.

Dunne collapsed suddenly during field hockey practice and was rushed to the hospital where she died from a brain hemorrhage.

"It was devastating to see her when we got there, and she held on and fought as long as she could," Matthew says.

Her parents remembering their daughter, the middle of five children, as the glue of the family.

"She got along with everyone and kept us all together," Mary says.

On the Nobles practice field in Dedham a memorial continues to grow. Friends and classmates leave rubber ducks, which Casey just absolutely loved.

The head of school says the field team is shocked and devastated. They had just gathered to start practice when Casey collapsed.

A photo, taken just 30 minutes earlier, shows the high school junior vivaciously alive.

The Dunnes say looking at it brings them comfort knowing that Casey was happy and surrounded by people she loved until the end.

"She brought joy to everything," Matthew says. "We've been saying she brought joy to every moment except her leaving, that's been a little joyless."

Grief counselors are on hand at the school as students return to class after Columbus Day.
