Oakland police warned residents and businesses Monday near the Ghost Ship warehouse that they would lose power for 12 hours while officials investigate the scene where at least 36 people died after a fire Friday night.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Oakland police warned residents and businesses Monday near the Ghost Ship warehouse that they would lose power for 12 hours while officials investigate the scene where at least 36 people died after a fire Friday night.

As crews work to carefully recover victims' bodies and preserve critical evidence, officials said the planned power outage was necessary.

The outage began at noon, impacting as many as 50 to 100 customers.
