FREMONT, Calif. -- A man found dead from a suspected gunshot wound in Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont Sunday morning was identified Monday as Fernando Vasquez, 20, of Stockton, according to the East Bay Regional Park District.

A park visitor found Vasquez in the bushes off Patterson Ranch Road near Paseo Padre Parkway at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, park police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vasquez, previously a Hayward resident, had a puncture wound on his chest that is suspected to be a gunshot wound. No weapon was found at the scene, park district spokeswoman Carolyn Jones said.

Park police closed the entrance to the park until later that morning while investigating. The Alameda County coroner's bureau will conduct an autopsy either today or Tuesday.
