St. Louis County PD released surveillance video of fatal police shooting
St. Louis County police have released the surveillance video of the officer involved fatal shooting of young black male, just two miles from Ferguson, the site of recent police protests.

BERKELEY, Mo. (KGO) -- A City of Berkeley Police Office was called to the gas station shortly before the incident to respond to a call for a theft. It is unclear if the call came directly from the Mobile gas station.

When the officer pulled up to the gas station, he encountered two individuals. As the officer was speaking to them, one of the individuals pointed a 9mm high point pistol at the officer. The officer tried to back away from the individual, but lost his balance. The officer then fired off three shots. One of the shots hit the individual holding the pistol.

The individual shot, also the suspect in this incident, was killed. He was an 18-year-old black male.

Police have released surveillance video of the incident.

Police are currently unsure if any DashCam video was recorded, because the officers car lights were not on. They are still checking this. The officer was given a body camera to wear, but did not have it on him during the time of the shooting.

Berkeley EMS arrived to the scene shortly after the shooting, but the body was not transported away from the scene until about two hours after the incident occurred. Officer Chief Belmar says this is a standard practice.

The other individual present at the time ran away from the scene. Police a currently looking for that person.

St. Louis County Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating the incident.

The officer involved in the shooting is currently on administrative leave and was a 6-year vet to the force. He is a 34-year-old white male.

The 18-year-old suspect had previously been arrested (assault charges and armed robbery changes). An autopsy is being performed on the suspect.

A crowd of 200-300 people gathered shortly after the incident occurred. Some members of the crowd threw rocks/bricks at officers, injuring one in the face. That officer was taken to the hospital.

Someone in the crowd also threw an explosive device of fireworks at the officers, while they were standing near the gas pumps of the station. An officer trying to run away from the explosion hurt his leg and was taken to the emergency room.

Four people were arrested for assault against police officers.

Officers did use pepper spray at one point on the crowd.

Later in the night, some people in the crowd set a small fire in the QT, which is located across the street from the Mobile gas station.

50 police cars were on scene. There was also a tactical prescience,(which only consisted of officers in uniform in suburban vehicles).

Berkeley is about two miles from Ferguson, where a police officer fatally shot 18-year-old Michael Brown in August.
