WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- Walnut Creek police are investigating what they're calling an extremely bold crime in which a woman was kidnapped from her own front yard and robbed.

For those who know the area of Mount Diablo Boulevard and Main Street, it's an extremely busy part of Walnut Creek. Nonetheless, police say a female victim was taken there in her own car by a robber who stood outside with a gun while she went inside and withdrew money.

Police say it started just before noon on Tuesday when the woman, who lives on Muller Road, was confronted by a man with a handgun in her front yard. It's a quiet neighborhood about two miles from the bank.

"We don't have a good description of him yet," said Lt. Steve Gorski. "We know that he is a male, his face was covered, he was wearing a hat and he was wearing glasses and something else to cover his face. So we are hoping to get some video that will show the suspect."

After the visit to the bank, the woman and the suspect drove back to her neighborhood and she was released unharmed

At this point, police say this was a random crime. They do not believe the victim and suspect knew each other. They are, however, looking into the possibility that the house was targeted.

Police are asking anyone with information or video from either the bank's location or the neighborhood to contact investigators.
