PLEASANT HILL, Calif. -- Crews have capped a gas leak prompted by a construction crew dig-in near Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill this morning, a utility spokeswoman said.

A worker operating an excavator appears to have struck and ruptured a 1.25-inch natural gas line on Golf Club Road at Old Quarry Road around 8:30 a.m., according to PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian.

Crews were able to stop the flow of gas around 10:30 a.m. and remained on scene as of 11:30 a.m. to repair the ruptured line, she said.

No evacuations were reported in the area but police temporarily closed part of Golf Club Road as crews worked to cap the leak.

PG&E encourages anyone planning a digging project to call 811 before getting started to have underground utility lines marked, regardless of the size of the job.
