Resident of single-story Union City home displaced by fire

UNION CITY, Calif. -- A one-alarm fire displaced one person who lived alone in a single-story house in Union City early Saturday morning, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

Fire crews responded to a report of a fire in the 33400 block of Eighth Street around 4:20 a.m., fire officials said.

No one was injured in the fire but the home sustained substantial damage and its only resident was displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials believe a gas heater may be to blame.
