San Francisco preps for Bay Area's biggest fireworks show

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Tow away signs are up along parts of San Francisco's waterfront and Fisherman's Wharf in anticipation of Monday's fireworks show,, which begins at 9:30 p.m..

Crews have been setting up in Aquatic Park at Pier 39 for the big display. They have been loading dozens of tubes on two barges, which will be set off by a computer based operating system.

"We have shells that go 1,000 feet in the air and we don't put a lot of them in this show because we have the potential and we don't want to lose them into the fog," explained Jeff Thomas with Pyrospectaculars by Souza.

This year you can download an app allowing you to listen to a synchronized sound track on your hand-held device.

The show will go on for 23 exhilarating minutes. Yet as we've come to know, nothing is guaranteed.

"Well, if there's fog, you may not see them" said Thomas, speaking of the fireworks.

San Francisco is ranked among the top 10 cities in the country to spend the Fourth of July.

"We came from Rome, Italy and we are here for the 4th of July," said one ciouple.

Many say no matter what the weather brings, it won't dampen their spirit.

"We're proud of our country, no matter what's going on out there. We still love it, always will," said Sue Ellen, a tourist.
