San Jose crews extinguish 2-alarm house fire

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Three people have been displaced after a two-alarm fire broke out at a home on El Paseo Drive in San Jose Monday morning.

The people inside the home woke up to the smell of smoke and were able to get out safely, along with one pet.

Firefighters say the fire started shortly after 6 a.m. in the back of a large ranch home.

Crews say the heat made this one tougher to knock down. "This is a high heat index this weekend and so what that does is makes a fire grow exponentially faster because the humidity is down and also for our crews we have to be highly cognizant of the fact that they're going to work past their stress point very quickly because of the ambient temperature," San Jose Fire Department Capt. Mike Van Elgort said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
