SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- San Jose City Councilmember Pete Constant is challenging residents to collectively lose one million pounds by the end of summer.

Constant issued the challenge Monday morning outside city hall.

He talked about his own struggle maintaining a healthy weight and then launched a website to get people motivated.

The website offers tips for getting in shape and how to eat better. Plus, it connects people with others who are shedding weight.

"Where people are really talking about the struggles they are facing with obesity and help each other find solutions as we each face our own health challenges," Constant said.

The website has a running counter on how many people are taking up the challenge and how much weight they have lost.
