San Mateo County issues warning about car burglaries
Authorities have issued a warning about car burglaries that have been occurring in San Mateo County parking lots.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- Authorities have issued a warning about car burglaries that have been occurring in San Mateo County parking lots.

Most of the recent incidents have taken place between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The victims don't realize they're helping the thieves by doing certain things -- like going back in their car to put their purse, wallet, briefcase, or luggage under a seat or under a coat; leaving laptops or other electronic devices in plain view on the front seat, or putting shopping bags and other purchased items in their car and then return to shopping.

All of this is happening while the thieves are parked in the parking lots and watching people as they exit their vehicles. The police's advice, don't leave anything of value in your car. If you're shopping and place packages inside your vehicle, drive off and find another place to park and of course -- if you see anything suspicious -- call the police.
