Deputies investigating discovery of human remains south of Gilroy

GILROY, Calif. (KGO) -- Human remains were found by PG&E contract workers near an orchard in Gilroy on the corner of Castro Valley Road and Santa Teresa Boulevard.

Investigators could not tell if the bones were from a male or female.

Immediately, thoughts of missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar came to mind but investigators say evidence found make it unlikely.

"Visible dental work. There was a gold cap or a gold-colored cap on the body," Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Sgt. James Jensen said.

LaMar did not have a gold cap on her teeth.

She went missing in 2012 while walking to her bus stop near her Morgan Hill home. Antolin Garcia Torres was charged with kidnapping and murdering her, even though she has never been found.

His trial is scheduled to start in April.

Doug Tollis with the Sierra LaMar search team came to the crime scene Thursday morning. "We still have hope. And we're never going to give up looking for Sierra until we bring her home," he said.

After the on scene investigation is complete, the remains will be removed and DNA testing will be done.

It should take at least a week before investigators get the results.
