San Francisco traffic stop leads to seizure of explosives, semi-automatic rifle

SAN FRANCISCO -- Two men allegedly in possession of incendiary devices and at least one semi-automatic rifle were detained Monday night following a traffic stop near McLaren Park in San Francisco's Visitacion Valley, police said Tuesday.

At about 10:15 p.m. on Monday, San Francisco police officers made contact with a driver and a passenger in a Nissan Frontier near the intersection of Hahn Street and Visitacion Avenue.

Officers discovered at least one paint canister with a wick located inside the vehicle and called an explosive ordnance device team out to the scene. The team determined that at least one device located inside the car was combustible.

A search of one of the men's home, located in the 200 block of Leland Avenue, uncovered more incendiary devices along with additional suspicious materials, according to police.

Police also seized a silver short-barreled AR-15 rifle, fully loaded with a 30-round magazine.

The suspects, identified as 44-year-old San Francisco resident Harold Dunlap and 32-year-old Oakland resident Alexander Collaco, were arrested, according to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza.

Dunlap was arrested on suspicion of four counts of illegal possession of explosives and other weapons-related offenses, while Collaco was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of tear gas, Esparza said.
